I have absolutely no idea what impact NIL will have on college basketball. With that in mind, in my opinion, if everyone stays, a good coach will have us dancing next year. If everyone leaves, a good coach will have us dancing in three years.

It shouldn’t take 3 years. A good coach will have us dancing in 1-2 years

Not surprised. I hate to see Small leave but he has no ties to OSU other than Boynton. He will be looking for the highest bidder. I think we will see a max exodus this year, but we desperately needed and had to have a good basketball coach. Hopefully we can provide some NIL support and turn this thing around in one to two years. If Williams lands somewhere that a coach can get him to play with a little more discipline and with a higher basketball IQ, they will have a good player. Every time Q touched the ball, I felt like it was 50-50 whether we would see a great play or a turnover.

Not surprised. Boynton ran our program straight into the dirt. He had absolutely 0 clue what he was doing. As a person, amazing. A coach, sorry as it got. Couldn’t develop a player, and couldn’t make an in-game adjustment to save his life. He was a “hoper” in game.

I’m personally glad he’s gone. Hate to see Small leave, our best player. But, we need to clean house. Miss the 2000-2004 days. Hopefully we get real if we want to compete in the new Big 12.

In 2023 we had six players leave in the portal - Avery Anderson, Kalib Boone, Cisse, Woody Newton, Tyreek Smith, and Chris Harris.

2022 it was five - Rondel Walker, Isaac Likekele, M-A Moncrieffe, Keylan Boone, Donovan Williams.

That is 11 in two years. It is not like we haven't been through this. It is to be expected that we will lose some in the portal with a coaching change. But 5 or 6 would be average for us.

Hopefully a new coach will bring some in.

Quion is a full court press kinda player. His skill set is not a half court set. He plays hard and rebounds well. He's much better as a 4 man in small ball. Tuff kid.

Just look at Iowa State. They were friggin’ 0-18 in the 2020-21 season. The next year they went to the Sweet 16. Now they’re on the verge of being a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It can be done.

We need to name a coach quickly. Some of these kids entering the portal might consider staying if they like the new coach.

I don't think we should concern ourselves with the portal, quite frankly. Yes, we have some talented young players that would be nice to retain, but the team went 12-20 for a reason.

It will sting to lose Garrison, Small, Keller, Dailey, etc., but the new coach will have his own players/skillsets to look for.

In this day and age, I'm just assuming we'll have an almost entirely new roster next season. Hell, that's basically how it's already been for us.

I think it's pretty obvious we are looking at someone whose team is still playing in the NCAA tourney. Can't announce until they are bounced. I dont think any of these kids are going to stay. They loved Boynton.

Yes. The went 12-20 because a majority of them were freshmen and sophom*ores playing in the toughest conference in basketball.

Tech was pretty terrible last year and they should win at least one game in the tournament this year.

Yes, he went 12-20 with a roster he built. To which I am glad he fully explained how he was handicapped by the AD and boosters.

I'm not saying they don't have value. I think a few of those guys have very high ceilings. I'm saying I'm not going to get worked up about them leaving.

This is just what happens when coaches get fired now. It's the cost of trying to right the ship.

I fully expect all players to leave. We hav chosen the option to start over. Let's start over. Why doesn't matter.

If everyone transfers maybe we should fill the roster via tryouts. Everyone that makes the team gets a scholarship, no NIL. We could probably also find a faculty member who would coach for a reduced teaching load and a salary bump of around $20,000. We might finish at the bottom of the conference but where were we this year?

Of course I’m being facetious but college athletics just seems to be going to **** in a hand basket. No wonder I have become an old curmudgeon.

I wish these guys would wait until a new coach is named and they have a team meeting with him. He could very well be the answer to whatever it is that players dream of these days.

There is no guarantee this wasn’t the case even if we kept Boynton. It’s the norm. You will see this everywhere. It’s why all of these teams are not going to the NIt. All of them are concentrating on the transfer portal. It’s the new normal.

Imagine being a new coach, everyone leaving and having to build an entire new team in the toughest conference in America that will only get tougher when Arizona, Utah and Colorado comes in the league next season…hopefully the fan base can exercise patience.

They could still return. Entering the portal doesn't mean you have to leave. There is a still a possibility that the next HC could retain them.

That said, the longer this process takes, the slimmer those odds, obviously. However, I don't think that should be a deciding factor.

Weiberg shouldn't pass on a superior candidate just to retain these guys/recruit the portal.

Interesting. Javon Small just posted on Twitter that he hasn't officially entered the portal.
